OBC Application

OBC is an AC/DC converter installed inside a car that provides low-power charging of the car battery from a power outlet at home or in the garage. 

The power of OBC ranges from 3kW to more than 20kW, but due to the power limitation of household power outlets, the OBC power of general EVs doesn’t exceed 7kW. The current mainstream OBC design in the market uses a two-stage converter. 

The front stage often uses an interleaved totem pole PFC. Totem pole PFC is a bidirectional AC/DC and DC/AC converter, and the rear stage uses CLLC, which is also a bidirectional conversion. The device uses SJ MOS to perform secondary rectification on the secondary side. Such a bidirectional OBC can both charge the electric vehicle battery pack and feed back the energy of the battery to the AC grid.
